Choosing Insurance For Touring Caravans

by admin Leave a reply »

Caravan holidays are now a very popular form of having a reasonably cheap holiday.  As with any other type of possession, insurance can be very important to guard you against any unforeseen financial emergencies so careful consideration is needed to choose the correct policy for your needs, ensuring the things you want covered are and for a good price.

Touring caravan insurance is very different to static caravan insurance but is quite easily defined.  Touring caravans are any type of caravan or camping item that is towed behind a vehicle whilst a static caravan is one that remains parked on site throughout the year.  This can include a touring caravan if the said caravan does not move from the site during the year but is constantly set up there, even though its model defines it as a tourer.

The policies for touring caravans themselves do not differ much between providers and generally cover them same things.  Differences are often slight and usually come in the figures but all policies should be read thoroughly before signing up to them.

The things that you can expect to be covered are; if your caravan gets stolen whether that is from your home, off the towing vehicle  during transit or even whilst in storage.

Damage: if it occurs during travel on the road, by third parties whilst being stored or during your holiday, or even sometimes through your own actions (some policies differ on this though so fine print should be read!).

Personal belongings are also covered, similarly to house insurance but not as all encompassing.  All camping equipment should be covered and all items that you have in your caravan on holiday or even store in your caravan during storage should be covered.

Most caravan insurance policies will cover the costs incurred for alternative accommodation if you are away on holiday and something happens to your caravan.  This is only covered for a limited period but depends largely on how high your insurance premiums are and what sum of excess you will need to pay the company before they will pay out on your claim.
